Do you want to join the fight against cybercrime? Does protecting computers from unauthorized access or destruction sound exciting to you? If you’re passionate about technology and want to help protect others from having their private information stolen, a career in cybersecurity may be the right decision for you.

Garrett College’s Cybersecurity program offers students the option of pursuing a certificate or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree, both designed to prepare students with the analytical and problem-solving skills needed for a career in the cybersecurity industry.

Garrett’s cybersecurity coursework prepares students to sit for multiple industry-relevant certification exams, such as:

    CompTIA

  • Security+
  • Linux+

    Cisco

  • CCNA

    EC-Council

  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

The curriculum introduces students to industry-standard operating systems, security software, and networking devices, and provides hands-on assignments to prepare students for real world tasks that will be encountered in their careers.

Career Opportunities

Garrett’s Cybersecurity program focuses on the in-demand skills that are sought in the rapidly changing information technology industry. Many employers seek to hire candidates with industry recognized certifications such as A+, Net+, Security+, and CCNA, which many GC students obtain while studying cybersecurity at Garrett College. Graduates of the program may join the workforce in careers such as IT technicians or network support specialists, or they may choose to further their education and pursue a bachelor’s degree in an IT-related program.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Students will communicate using proper technical computer and networking terminology.
  • Students will demonstrate an ability to identify risks and threats involving computer assets and data.
  • Students will identify, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace PC and laptop hardware components.
  • Students will install and update, operate and troubleshoot, configure and secure operating systems in both real and virtual environments.
  • Students will understand, design and secure IP networks.
  • Students will possess and demonstrate knowledge of core IP protocols, perform penetration testing, analyze results and employ effective countermeasures.
